Felix Friedmann’s work reflects his artistic understanding of human existence in the context of our environment. His works, triggered by a process of existential questions, doubts, surprises and emotions provoke new questions and irresolution up to the point of consternation. Clarifications of human traces, legacies between assessment and claims to dominance, right up to exploitation: these are the things which direct the attention of the viewer to both the obvious and that which has so far been disregarded. The perceived world appears to everyone to be a stage on which the game of life is played. Yet the images of this man remain cautiously abstract and as much so as individual words which allow the viewer to discover their own stories (great or small). Stories in which there are no definitive answers to be found, only those which are marked by openness and the tension of not knowing, suspicion and speculation.
The works of Felix Friedmann often appear to be closer to painting than clear photography. The scene selection remains strongly inspired by all things ordinary. He shows recurring moments – moments which are similar in nature but which nevertheless differ from one another thanks to their unique atmosphere. The observer soon feels familiar with the image, but notes that the image has never been the way it is in their presence. These may well be the very things that Friedmann aims to capture in his images – things which are easy to overlook in everyday life given their volatility and simplicity but which come to the fore in his artistic representation.
